While scuba diving around Koh Tao is generally safe, as with any marine environment, there are certain marine creatures that have the potential to be hazardous. It's essential to be aware of these species and take appropriate precautions. Some examples include:
Sea Urchins: These spiky creatures are common on rocky surfaces. Accidentally stepping on a sea urchin can result in painful stings. It's advisable to watch your step, wear sturdy dive boots, and be cautious when navigating rocky areas.
Scorpionfish and Stonefish: These camouflaged fish can deliver venomous spines if stepped on or touched. Careful finning techniques and avoiding contact with the seabed can reduce the risk of encountering these creatures.
